Associates and Bachelors Degrees in Criminal Justice
Platt College’s Criminal Justice program prepares you to enter the various occupational fields of the criminal justice system. You can earn your Associate's degree in as little as 15 months, or your Bachelor's degree in as little as 31 months!
The Associates program in Criminal Justice provides the student with a solid foundation in the field, including: Law & Ethics, Corrections, Private Security, Criminal Law, Criminology, - Criminal Investigations/Report Writing, Psychology of Criminal Behavior, Juvenile Justice, Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice/Terrorism, and Forensics. Bachelor's program students continue with additional in-depth study of key issues and workings of the legal system, and explores the field’s key sub-areas of law enforcement, security, and corrections. Legal foundation coursework includes Constitutional Law, Advanced Criminal Law/Trial Procedures, Immigration, and Laws of Evidence. Specialized courses in law enforcement, corrections, and security focus on specific issues that are particularly relevant for a graduate seeking employment in the field: Modern Policing, Police Administration & Management, Management in the Security Industry, and Advanced Corrections.
The field of criminal justice is expected to grow significantly between 2008 and 2018, with increased employment of police officers and detectives by 10 percent, probation officers and correctional treatment specialists by 19 percent and private detectives and investigators by 22 percent, according to projections by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics*. Platt College’s criminal justice program provides a solid educational foundation to pursue a variety of career paths in the field.
Both programs include all coursework necessary to earn the basic CA Guard Card certification.
As part of its Criminal Justice curriculum, Platt College offers students the opportunity to earn their Guard Card certificate. The College is authorized by the Bureau of Security And Investigative Services (BSIS), a division of the Department of Consumer Affairs in the state of California to offer this training, which includes 8 hour power to arrest training, as well as the additional 32 hours of training required (in various subjects) to become a licensed security guard in California.
