PL135 — Introduction to Law
4.0 Quarter CreditsThis is an introductory course in paralegal studies and Criminal Justice. This course introduces students to basic legal concepts, principles and procedures in the study of law. It will provide students with an understanding of the structure of the U.S. legal system including the court systems, both federal and state courts and the history of law in the United States. The Course will further explore the role and functions of the judicial, legislative, and executive branches of the government, the Concepts of federalism and separation of powers. Students will be able to use and understand simple legal vocabulary and knowledge of various legal theories or schools. Students will learn legal reasoning, case analysis and the IRAC method. Students will acquire knowledge of substantive areas of law such as: Criminal Law, Constitutional law and freedom, torts and Contract Law. Ethical Considerations for the legal professionals and duties will be discussed throughout the module. (50 Hours)
