On September 16, 2026, Platt College Riverside welcomed James De Loera, Field Representative for U.S. Senator Adam Schiff. The visit gave our team the chance to share how Platt prepares students for in-demand careers.

We also got to show him that work firsthand in our classrooms and labs. For a region growing as quickly as the Inland Empire, the connection between local education and local jobs matters.

We were grateful for James’s time and his genuine interest in our students.

A closer look at Platt’s commitment to students

The visit began with a meeting with our leadership team. We walked James through how Platt approaches student success from enrollment to graduation.

That starts with the admissions process, including the entrance exams that help ensure students are ready for the rigor of their chosen program. From there, the conversation turned to our programs and to the outcomes we hold ourselves accountable for.

We also discussed the support students can count on along the way. That includes help with financial aid, tutoring, and career services that help graduates take the next step into their field.

Career-focused degrees for a growing Inland Empire

A central part of the discussion was Platt’s focus on offering career-focused degree programs to the Inland Empire’s expanding population. As the region grows, so does the need for skilled professionals in healthcare, business, and technology.

Our Riverside campus and our Ontario campus are designed to meet that need close to home. Students can train for local careers without leaving the communities they live in.

“The Inland Empire is growing, and our students are the workforce that growth depends on. We were proud to show James what that looks like every day at our Riverside campus.”

Steven Broyles, Platt College Riverside Campus President

Touring Platt College Riverside

After the meeting, we gave James a tour of the Riverside campus. He met faculty, staff, and students across the building, with stops in our classrooms and library.

A highlight was the Diagnostic Medical Sonography lab, where James watched our sonography students in action. They performed scans with the same equipment and techniques they will use in clinical settings.

It was a clear picture of what hands-on, career-focused training looks like.

Our Diagnostic Medical Sonography program combines online coursework with on-campus lab training and a supervised clinical externship at affiliated healthcare sites.

Students can earn an associate degree in as little as 18 months or a bachelor’s degree in as little as 27 months.

Building partnerships that serve our community

Thank you to James De Loera and Senator Schiff’s office for taking the time to visit. Thank you also to our Riverside faculty, staff, and students for making him feel welcome.

We look forward to continuing the conversation about how Platt College can help meet the workforce needs of the Inland Empire.
