Program Details
Medical Assistants are multi-talented Health Care industry professionals. These individuals possess a broad scope of knowledge and skills that makes them ideal professionals for any clinical care setting. Medical Assistants are skilled in performing routine clinical and administrative procedures for physician’s offices, outpatient clinics and other health care facilities. Some of these clinical skills include venipuncture, injections, physical therapy, and electrocardiography among others.

Complete a clinical externship as part of your education to help you gain practical experience.
In a typical day as a Medical Assistant, you might:
- Take and read vital signs
- Perform venipuncture (blood draw)
- Administer injections
- Prepare patients to be seen by a physician
- Perform diagnostic procedures
- Perform basic lab procedures
- Update and maintain patient charts and medical records
- Take patient histories
- Schedule appointments
- Assist in cast application and removal

Vocational Objective
There are a variety of opportunities for employment available to graduates who have obtained their medical assisting degree.
Some of the most well-known degrees are Medical Assistant, Ophthalmic Medical Assistant, and Pediatric Medical Assistant.
Career opportunities can be found across many active industries, such as medical offices, hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, ambulatory settings, as well as home health agencies.

Graduates who have obtained the Medical Assistant Associate Degree at Platt College are eligible to earn their national certification in Medical Assisting from the National Center.
Except as expressly provided in California Education Code Section 94898, Platt College reserves the right to modify policies, course schedules, curricula or courses within reason due to exigent circumstances, program upgrades and/or content changes, and to cancel programs of study, modes of delivery, upcoming start dates or individual courses as it deems necessary. If a course or program is canceled, the school may schedule course completion at a later date or refund all monies paid for the canceled course or program if the student does not wish to continue with the program at the later date.
