As a Career Services Director, Carolyn’s goal is to ensure that every graduate has the opportunity to apply their new skills and knowledge to their chosen field of study and to grow both personally and professionally. Carolyn works with students to create resumes, prepare for interviews, and connect with employers. Carolyn’s advice to those entering the job market: “Never back down from new challenges but rather embrace them with confidence.”
“Pick up the phone when we call, you never know what opportunity is waiting for you on the other end.”
With a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in counseling psychology, Dominique has worked in higher education for the last seven years, and is an active member of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce and co-advisor for the National Technical Honor Society. As a Career Services Director, Dominique and her team’s partnership with each student starts at orientation and flourishes throughout the student’s program. The team believes that the better they know the students, the better they can support them with their career goals. Dominique’s advice to those entering the job market: “Say ‘YES!’ Saying yes opens you to new challenges and opportunities. Every new challenge will get you out of your comfort zone and enhance your skill set which makes you that much more valuable to the company. Also, stay connected with your Career Services team. Our goal is to get graduates hired! “Pick up the phone when we call, you never know what opportunity is waiting for you on the other end.”
“Do whatever you can to start working in your field as soon as possible, then determine specifically where you want to work. A quality education with experience is a powerful combination.”
With a degree in organizational leadership, Bryan has over 20 years of experience in employment staffing/placement, including nine years in higher education. Bryan encourages students to attend Platt College’s many valuable career workshops which cover such topics as dressing for success, soft skills development, resume writing, job search techniques, mock interviewing and local and national employer development. He and his team also offer individual assistance tailored to each student’s and graduate’s needs. Bryan’s advice to those entering the job market: “Do whatever you can to start working in your field as soon as possible, then determine specifically where you want to work. A quality education with experience is a powerful combination.”
“Everyone starts somewhere. Take the job in your field even if it means waking up a bit earlier or driving a bit farther. That first year of experience is critical. Your dreams can become reality if you have the courage and the skills to pursue them!”
With a degree in graphic design from Platt College, John has worked at Platt College for the last 10 years and credits his success in Career Services to both his dedicated team and their collective “open door” policy. The policy promotes engaging with every student from day one — and not simply as graduation approaches — which gives the team unique and important insights into each student’s strengths and weaknesses and enables them to work with students throughout their educational journeys. John’s advice to those entering the job market: “Everyone starts somewhere. Take the job in your field even if it means waking up a bit earlier or driving a bit farther. That first year of experience is critical. Your dreams can become reality if you have the courage and the skills to pursue them!”
A primary goal of Platt College is to assist all graduates in their job search in the field for which they have been trained.
The school maintains an active career services department to assist graduates as well as current students seeking part-time or full-time jobs while attending school. However, the school cannot guarantee employment.
Students are given the opportunity to pursue job referrals maintained by Career Services.
Our Career Services personnel explain and assist with our student’s job search process. Placement efforts occur through graduation and beyond.
Career Services aims to build the job acquiring skills of our students through interviews and workshops in the following areas:
- Career planning
- Resume and cover letter writing
- Completing applications
- Researching and contacting potential employers
Anne Balver always knew she wanted to be of service within her community. “I’m a very positive person who truly likes to help others. At first, I thought I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, but quickly realized that my dream was to follow my real passion and ultimately work in the field of criminal justice.” Anne graduated from Platt College Alhambra with a degree in Criminal Justice. Her goal is to become a police officer and serve her community. Anne’s advice to others pursuing their goals?…“Always follow your dreams and never give up. Anything is possible.”
Kenny enrolled in Platt College Anaheim’s IT program in 2016 and worked at uBreakiFix. “Between my IT classes, my hands-on repair experience, and the fact that I worked closely with customers, I developed a confidence in my hard skills as well as my soft skills, and built a strong foundation for a future in IT!” said Kenny. Kenny was hired by J. Morita USA, a manufacturer of medical-technical products and a leading supplier in the fields of X-ray diagnostics and endodontics. “It‘s my job to work with the doctor or dentist’s office personnel to get the equipment back up and running ASAP...I spend much of my day on the phone helping medical personnel with IT issues and I find it very rewarding! And the good news is that I can do my job from anywhere!”
Medical Administrative Specialist
Samantha Monsouir thought she had it all together, then came a pandemic. “When COVID-19 hit, like other students, I abruptly made the transition to remote learning. But not only did I have to transition, as a single mom, my 15-year-old daughter, a high school freshman, also had to transition to online classes. It really felt like a whole new, uncertain world for us.” But Samantha persevered and is on track to graduate as a Medical Administrative Specialist (MAS) in August 2020. Samantha is looking forward to starting her externship next month in a private doctor’s office.
Robert moved to California and enrolled in college, but was forced to drop out and work in order to send money home to support his family. A packing job at Amazon offered Amazon’s Career Choice program that provided paid college tuition in select programs. Among those programs was Platt College Riverside’s IT program. While working toward his IT degree, Robert was transferred into Amazon’s IT department and landed the job of Support Technician. Robert graduated from Platt College in November 2019, shortly before the pandemic hit. “What I love about my job is the ability to facilitate positive interaction between our IT professionals and our customers. Being able to provide solutions to issues and remove barriers in the workplace is very satisfying – despite the 6-feet of social distance that we must maintain for now.”
Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound)
I attended Platt College Anaheim as a part of the very first graduating Diagnostic Medical Sonography class from 2016-18. I've worked at United Medical Imaging for the past two years and have grown so much...I obtained my Abdomen RDMS license in Feb. 2020 and currently working towards obtaining my RVT. If you find a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life and I have definitely found mine!
