What is Diagnostic Medical Sonography?
Diagnostic medical sonography utilizes high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body. These images aid physicians in their diagnosis of the patient.
Sonographers typically work closely with patients and radiologists in clinical health-care settings, including medical centers, medical clinics, and physicians’ offices.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Passage Rates Statement
Graduates from a non-JRC-DMS accredited program without a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree are typically eligible to sit for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification examinations after one year of practice in the field. Graduates from a JRC-DMS program, such as the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Platt College, are typically eligible for the ARDMS examination upon graduation.
Specific eligibility requirements vary depending on the applicant’s background and are determined solely by ARDMS.
At the time of this writing, ARDMS certification is not required for employment as a sonographer in the State of California.
