Program Details
Platt College’s Criminal Justice Hybrid program prepares graduates for entry in criminal justice related fields such as private security, investigations, corrections, and probation.
Graduates are awarded an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice.
Our curriculum includes coursework in topics such as:
- Introduction to Law & Ethics,
- Corrections
- Private Security
- Criminal Law
- Criminology, Criminal Investigations/Report Writing
- Psychology of Criminal Behavior
- Juvenile Justice
- Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice/Terrorism
- Forensics
Students will be introduced to many tasks commonly used by Criminal Justice professionals, using visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic approaches.
As part of its Criminal Justice curriculum, Platt College offers students the opportunity to earn their Guard Card certificate. The College is authorized by the Bureau of Security And Investigative Services (BSIS), a division of the Department of Consumer Affairs in the state of California to offer this training, which includes 8-hour power to arrest training, as well as the additional 32 hours of training required (in various subjects) to become a licensed security guard in California.
Program includes all coursework necessary to earn the basic CA Guard Card certification.
Guard Card certification meeting California state agency and Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) requirements, included – NO additional tuition or fees (A Guard Card is the state license to work as a security officer in California.)
- Program will be taught through a combination of online and on-campus courses.
- All program courses have been predetermined to be either online or on-ground

Legal foundation coursework includes Constitutional Law, Advanced Criminal Law/Trial Procedures, Immigration, and Laws of Evidence. Specialized courses in law enforcement, corrections, and security focus on specific issues that are particularly relevant for a graduate seeking employment in the field: Modern Policing, Police Administration & Management, Management in the Security Industry, and Advanced Corrections.

Except as expressly provided in California Education Code Section 94898, Platt College reserves the right to modify policies, course schedules, curricula or courses within reason due to exigent circumstances, program upgrades and/or content changes, and to cancel programs of study, modes of delivery, upcoming start dates or individual courses as it deems necessary. If a course or program is canceled, the school may schedule course completion at a later date or refund all monies paid for the canceled course or program if the student does not wish to continue with the program at the later date.
